Summer at the Kranch!

Grandpa and Finn made the treehouse and the swing came later... A little boy's paradise!

And their neighbours have a trampoline (like Nana and Grandad)!

Our New Favourite Place to Go in the Summer

Aunt Jill brought us here the first time because she knew the boys would like it (she was right!) and we promptly brought every house guest to spend the afternoon here.

Riding Toys in the Rain

Because of the construction at Leina's this summer, we couldn't park at the house but walked to a neighbourhood parking lot a few blocks away every time we wanted to drive somewhere.  The boys loved it because on the way back, we could ride in a "mule" (a beefed up golf cart).

Construction Up Close

We house-sat at Leina and Joe's this summer as the neigbourhood had all their sewers redone. My friend Tammy from Sasaktoon came to visit! The boys loved all the construction vehicles.

Back by popular demand after a long hiatus, Fuzzy Haired Baby Videos resume (in chronological order, of course, so you'll have to patient for those Christmas videos...)

Finn rides Doc

Apparently there are more Barbours in Saskatoon.  We met Daniel's dad's cousin and family and horses this weekend and really enjoyed their company - just in time to leave!  The irony. (There are two more videos below.  Since blogger changed the post settings, it freezes when I try to upload multiple videos per post...)

They Sneaked Up On Us!

There we were, in Newfoundland, on the board walk across a bog, crouching to look at an indigenous Canadian pitcher plant... when we stood up and looked behind us, and what should we see but:

Peace...

A Non-Video Post...

...but poignant enough to share:  Finn and R-star and I walked Daniel to the bus this morning and on the way back, the boys were lured to the warm south face of the neighbourhood school that was full of dandelions.  I sat on the grass and received the fist-fulls of yellow flowers that my eager sunny haired boys brought to me for 45 minutes.  On one trip, Finn, who was wearing a bright yellow shirt, remarked to me, "Mama, in the Selfish Giant story (by Oscar Wilde), the giant said, 'I have many beautiful flowers, but the children are the most beautiful flowers of all.'"

Finger Lights

A favourite of the Easter basket this year.

Fill 'er up!

Yes, we know the propellant is nitrous oxide, but when did a little laughing gas hurt anyone?  A good use of the first appearance in our home of whipped topping in a can (thanks, Grandad!).

Wagon Train

It was Finn's idea. He asked permission to go get his bike and the buggy for Ransom from the back yard and came round to the front with this set up. He pulled Ransom all the way to Tammy's house down the block and home again afterward. Pretty cute.

The Herschel Swing

A farmer's special. Complete with exposed gears that almost wore Finn's fingers. Ripped his coat and threw him to the ground instead. Otherwise, lots of fun!

Check out those garbage can rocket boosters. A Finneas original.

January Popsicle

In the summer, when the boys went outside, they got a popsicle. They still ask in winter (or Ransom does at least)!

Compass vs compass

Finn was very excited to use a real compass to make the inner circles (a pot lid was useful for the outer larger ones) and then asked me why this circle tool had the same name as a compass you hold in your hand to find directions. :)

Dr. Bump

Finneas got bandages from Aunt Stephie in his stocking for Christmas. In a house that only doles out adhesive bandages upon the sight of blood, these ones were gold!

Who Needs Toys?

Our free microwave from the first tenant in Lethbridge gave up the ghost (or the door latch) and it ceased working so Daniel took out its guts with help from the boys and now they can "cook" whenever they want!

Yogurt Containers = Rocket Boosters

He tottered around the house in this get-up for a good part of the morning. It was adorable.
